Lake Whatcom Water & Sewer District (new)

An exterior appearance and layout has been selected and approved for Lake Whatcom Water and Sewer District’s new administration building in Bellingham.  The Driftmier Architects is working with the District on turning a former fast food restaurant into an efficient and visually pleasing administration facility that will meet the growing needs of the Lake Whatcom Water and Sewer District.

The existing 2,320 sf building will be remodeled and approximately 1,160 sf of additional space will be added.  The new facility will feature a public lobby, commissioner meeting room, offices, conference space and support areas.  The plan is to maintain the existing brick finishes on some parts of the building while also bringing in new complementary materials such as cultured stone, beveled siding and a new glass entry canopy.  Roof monitors and light shelves that also function as window shades will provide daylight throughout the facility and reduce the amount of energy required to light the building.

The District plans to move into their new administration building in the Spring of 2010.  A remodel to the current operation facility on Lakeview Street will follow the completion of the administration building.
